December 2, 2013 -- People of the Year. Malala Yousafzai, Pakistani schoolgirl shot by the Taliban for calling for women's education rights. In April Time magazine named her one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World". She was awarded Pakistan's first National Youth Peace Prize and was nominated for the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize. Yousafzai is the recipient of the Sakharov Prize for 2013.
